Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
